The modernized world, especially in crowded cities or urban areas requires greater attention in making its road environment safer for all. With the concept called Intelligent Transport System (ITS), many concepts that enhances the safety of road environment were discussed and tested with positive results. This project has a strong reference to ITS and it involves in creating safety applications to tackle specific traffic incidents. The objective is to notify surrounding vehicles of a car door being opened and hence other motorists especially two wheeled riders will be able to avoid colliding against the door. Besides that, this project aims to improve the method of obtaining speed for BSM using CAN bus within the vehicle itself rather than relying on GPS. With the tests carried out, it was found that more research and development is needed for the ‘car door’ warning application as the framework used does not support this feature yet. However, the successfulness of broadcasting a car’s speed using BSM will further enhance current safety application and also be able to contribute significantly to upcoming safety applications where necessary.
