This study has found that narrated animations which are concise, appropriately-paced and have appropriately-timed elements are key factors that contribute to meaningful learning and interpretation of information. On a zero budget, a whiteboard animation video and a cartoon video were produced as an alternative learning method from the traditional lecture, and are also available to the online community. Surveys, a short quiz and online comments have revealed that the animations were of good quality and are helpful in learning the biological concept of double fertilisation. Viewers have also indicated their preference watching the animations over a lecture. We conclude that the two videos produced can be used to supplement the traditional teaching style.
