Summary: | This project explores the relationship between our mind and body while in the act of sitting. Chairs are a big part of our daily lives that not many think about. They provide support for us and we sit on them for long durations not knowing the adverse effects it has on our physical and mental state. Many of us have lost our physical sensitivity towards sitting and end up being passive sitters. Is the solution of a more active sitting experience found in a single ergonomic designed form or something more abstract?
Moveon is an experimental chair design that hopes to intensify the sitting experience of its user. The intent of the anthropomorphically shaped seat is to stimulate a user’s thinking and prompt changes in body movements. The seat forms of the chair were designed by abstracting imprints of the human body in various sitting positions. These forms act as a design enabler as it privileges a certain sitting posture over another. The specificity of the design form affords a way of sitting while also prompting changes in a user’s posture, as an instinctive reaction for a sitter would be to countervail a definite way of sitting. |
