Summary: | In light of the rise in religious extremism and online racism, this study aims to assess the current state of multiracialism in Singapore from the youth perspective to determine Singapore’s current progress in its pursuit of multiracialism. Through the use of mixed methods from both interviews and surveys, this study looks towards evaluating both the effectiveness of current multiracial policies and also assessing the level of existing racism. Interview findings revealed the interviewees’ sense of appreciation for the intent and relative success of multiracial policies but also the need for incremental changes for policies to achieve their end goals. Survey findings emphasised the widespread existence of racism in Singapore and the need for greater efforts at all levels of society to overcome the problem. Together, these findings suggest that multiracialism in Singapore is still largely a work in progress, and that more especially needs to be done to combat racism. |
