Summary: | Methanation has gaining extensive interest in the recent years due to the increase in the prices of natural gases. Methane as a substitute for fuel will be a valuable economic asset to reduce the reliance on natural gas import. At the same time, power to gas methanation application is able to reduce greenhouse gases through carbon dioxide conversion which contributes to environment sustainability. Using Fischer-Tropsch process for this application, the key component is the catalyst design. This report investigates how Nickel contributes to better catalytic performance and why it should be the main catalyst for methanation. It also identifies the challenges to overcome such as catalyst deactivation mechanisms in the Fischer-Tropsch process. Through the study of literature reviews, Nickel based catalyst prepared with different methods are compared to identify which is able achieve the highest carbon dioxide conversion rate to methane gas at possibly low temperature and low price. |
