Description
Summary:Thermoacoustic as the name suggests, uses thermal energy to create acoustical or sound energy and vice versa through a combination of interaction between several parameters such as temperature, pressure and density. Presently, thermoacoustic devices are used in a myriad of different purposes for example, provide mechanical work as an engine, refrigeration and to also model the instability in a combustion engine. To setup a basic thermoacoustic device, one will basically need a heat source to heat a wire mesh and a hollow cylindrical tube. Most experiment setups either uses large fuel tank or are tethered to an electrical socket thus making it not portable to bring around. This paper will mainly outline and detail the design and fabrication process of creating a portable thermoacoustic device capable of recreating the thermoacoustic oscillations caused by thermoacoustics instabilities.
