Statistics from past studies have reflected on the low productivity levels of tiling in the construction industry. Further research has also shown the benefits of having an automated process for tiling. However, the cost of producing such a sophisticated machine has hindered the development of such an automated process. In this report, the author aims to design a semi-automated tile laying machine to improve the productivity levels of tiling. With the aid of a morphological chart, possible constituent components of the tile layer will be individually analysed. Thereafter, the components for the final design will be carefully evaluated and selected using a design criteria pie chart. Certain factors will then be taken into consideration with some factors being accorded a higher weightage in accordance with the design criteria pie chart. After which, a final design for each major component will be modelled after factoring in improvements made to an initial design. Based on calculations, suitable materials and parts will be used to assemble the final product. The finalised machine will carry ceramic tiles together with adhesive and lay tiles in a straight array. The manual operator of the final machine will oversee tile laying quality, quantity, and replenishment of resources.
