Summary: | Tower cranes play significant part in large-scale construction projects because of the special characteristic for lifting and moving heavy loads. Although tower cranes have simple balance structure for shifting heavy loads, operations of tower cranes are complex and accurate. Both operator and signal person must be trained strictly to take appropriate operations in order to avoid dangers in aerial work.
This report presents the three milestones in the whole project, which are assembly part, training for operators and training for signal persons. Through developing a program by Unity 3D with Facebook Oculus and leap motion as tools, the program aims at training both operators and signal persons in a virtual reality situation in order to avoid potential risk and cost in training on a real tower crane. The results indicate a vast reduction in developing time and the concept is considered to be a success. As the fresh idea and program does possess some limitation, it starts a new field for virtual reality application and opens a new path for tower crane industries. |
