Design and fabrications of simple geometric patterns II

Simple geometric patterns when arranged repeatedly in a matrix pattern can form latticework. These geometric patterns are formed by combining various motifs together and are arranged in sequence. These geometric patterns are formed by combining various motifs together and are arranged in sequence. For this project, the main focus is making use of these patterns into designing window and door grills by means of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, which is equipped with Application Program Interface (API) program. This project will delve into the numerous functions that can be found within the API of SolidWorks. A more specific study shall be focused on a program that past year student Lua Ying Han has worked on previously. Given the current program from Lua Ying Han, additional add-ins was included to expand its functions to provide greater freedom of usage for end users as well as providing greater array of latticework that can be incorporated in windows and door grills. In order for the program to work in the current operating systems of SolidWorks, compatibility modifications were made. The API program enables users to choose between having to create a normal window or door grill and one that has stained glass in it. The program will bring the user through various designing process from start to finish. The program starts with motif selection and the user will end up with a complete window/door grill. Latticework, motifs and patterns were created using more traditional method back in the days. This results in the product to be less accurate in terms of patterning as well as being time consuming due to manual labor and human error. The use of technology such as SolidWorks, allows the products to be designed with greater accuracy, speed and aesthetics.
