In this project, the machinability of these two materials using a micro- electric discharge machining (EDM) process will be evaluated by exploring various settings applied to the Makino Edge 1 as well as to its flush settings. As various studies have been conducted on ways to improve the machine efficiency of micro-EDM processes, little study has been done on the effects of pipe flushing in micro-EDM machining. Hence, this project aims to analyse the machine output parameters when different flush settings are applied. The effectiveness of the machining will be based on the quality of the micro-features by the micro-EDM. The qualities of micro-features include that of surface finish and geometrical accuracy. In addition, total power, material removal rates (MRR) and tool wear rates (TWR) will also be evaluated as a parameter of effectiveness to determine the mass production capability of micro-EDM processes on these materials.
