Summary: | Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly becoming more popular and common around the world. The potential of UAVs is endless. There are countless of applications that UAVs can be operated, such as to carry out military missions, support emergency like search and rescue, and other transportation purposes. With an increasing demand in the market for this technology, it is gradually becoming more affordable.
While the advancement for UAVs is beneficial, there are also a rise in the number of accidents and incidents related to it. Human factors and properties have been compromised. An installation of a fail save mechanism on the drone will be sufficient to greatly reduce this number.
The main purpose of this project is to explore the different fail save mechanisms for UAVs and to design the control system for such mechanism. Arduino boards have been used for this project due to the low cost and open source availability worldwide. The design consists of writing programs for the Arduino boards and using MATLAB to model the output required. Through a series of flight trials and experiments, the data are collected. The experimental setup is situated at an open field to prevent any possible incidents from happening and act as a soft landing for the UAV. |
