Summary:Colloidal photonic crystals have emerged as one of the most promising materials in many applications such as displays, structural color printing, sensors based on different stimuli, drug delivery, fluorescence enhancement and so on. It is because of its unique property of the photonic band gap, where only specific wavelengths of light can enter the material. This ability of light manipulation allows many researchers to study and innovate, henceforth, simplifying the current methods of technologies. With respect to biological sensing, it is a way of detecting specific molecules. Even though there are thousands of individual reactions going on concurrently, to verify for diagnostic purposes. As such, multiplex analysis is a technique that analyzes various molecules simultaneously. Compared to the current analysis, multiplex analysis can is more effective and efficient. This project will cover the fabrications of silica colloidal crystal beads and magnetic Janus beads using microfluidic technology. Following which, the application of biosensing using the magnetic properties of Janus beads for single and multiple biological molecules detection will be discussed as it has revealed up and coming prospects.
