Summary: | With the Singapore government pushing for Singaporeans to engage in sports and Singapore’s ageing population, knee pain cause by cruciate ligament injuries and osteoarthritis is increasingly prevalent among Singaporeans. However, current operative and non-operative treatment are expensive and may not always produce favourable outcomes as most patients are unable to return to their baseline knee function. This project aims to display the healing potential of Tuina in the management of pain and treatment potential in cruciate ligament injuries and osteoarthritis. 20 medical cases were collected and all cases were deemed “partially recovered”. Participants of this study were evaluated verbally and through patient outcome measures for pain and knee functionality. All patients have a significant reduction of pain and increased knee function after four treatments. The data collected from this study suggests a possibility that Tuina may be effective in treating knee pain due to cruciate ligament injury and osteoarthritis. |
