Summary:Conventional antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective as a result of bacterial resistance, and multidrug-resistant bacteria are a severe threat to public health. Hence, it is imperative to find new antibacterial strategies to address this serious problem. Targeting the bacterial membrane or cell wall offers an attractive strategy. Bacteria cannot simply change its membrane or essential cell-wall components; therefore, anti-bacterial agents targeting those sites offer effective solutions to the problem of drug resistance. Based on this rationale, three different strategies are pursued and developed in this thesis.
