The goal of this project is to develop a mobile robotic system that can interact with the elderly and allow a caregiver to perform remote monitoring. The system will combine a mobile robot with vision sensing capabilities and a chatbot. The system allows the caregiver to monitor the condition of the elderly by giving a simple command to the system and then, the robot will start to execute the command based on the instruction given. Once a person is detected by the robot using vision based sensing, an image will be sent whereby the caregiver can understand the situation by the image generated by the system. The system is implemented with motion detector algorithm. Once if any motion detected which implies that accident might happen to the elderly. The caregiver can take immediate action based on the image received to reduce the seriousness of injuries happened on the elderly. Caregiver can easily access the system to check the current situation of the elderly and monitor them through the platform at any point in time. Elderly can check on various topics with the chatbot which serves as a virtual companion. The chatbot is also able to speak with senior people on general topics like weather or news. With the increasing number of elderly living independently at home, the possibilities of elderly having accidents at home have been increasing as well.
