The customization and personalization of medical products, drugs, and equipment are one of the many benefits for the application of 3D printing in healthcare. The inventiveness to produce customized medical products and equipment is the greatest advantage that 3D printers offer in medical applications. It can manufacture custom-made jigs and equipment for use in operating theaters. Currently, the eye imaging tools being used in hospitals are not as conveniently used by physicians, apart from observation and analysis. They are not able to use both of their hands, reducing the maneuverability, when they are using surgical tools to operate on. Hence, they eventually require another person to hold onto the probe so that the physician is able to use both hands for the medical tools. Although there have been advances in technology that uses surgical microscopes, freeing both the hands, obtaining one will be very costly. This project aims to design a handheld ocular probe that is required to be hands-free, uses high-quality imaging, cost effective and small enough so that physicians around the world are able to view the eye of its patients without any problems at a low cost. A prototype is to be created using a 3D printer and using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software for ease and precision of design.
