Electronics ) DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering The motivation of the project was due to the problem with over booking of meeting rooms at ST @ AMK. Currently, the booking of meeting rooms are done by human and are largely dependent on customer’s schedule. Once a meeting is cancelled or ended early, human errors where updating of the meeting room status is not done. This gave rise to the idea of having an automated system to read the meeting rooms’ status in real time. The Smart Office Automation (SOA) system is a system that helps read the status of the meeting room – “Meeting Room In Use” or “Meeting Room Not In Use”. Consisting of both hardware and software setups, SOA is the integration of several sensors, with a Single Board Computer reading and writing to a remote server, programmed in C++ and Linux commands. The experiment and results collected were done at ST @ AMK. However, due to tight security issues, the pictures presented in the report is taken from home. The concept for implementing the system will be used at home. Other constraints for the project includes no microphone, no camera, no wireless and no drilling to be implemented leads to the challenge of detecting the meeting room status accurately. During the course of the project, problems encountered include the designing of circuits and coming up with the programme for implementation. These problems hindered the progress of the project but were successfully resolved. Additional improvements to the system as mentioned in the report are to be carried out so as to enhance the SOA system.
