Dynamic traffic flow simulation in Singapore

Traffic simulations are usually used in traffic management and hence, highly dependent on how realistic the simulated traffic flows are, which affects the reliability of using the simulation to manage actual traffic networks. Accurate statistical data are usually available from the authorities’ websites, but open-source data have also become increasingly popular for the advantage of public inspection. Open-source traffic simulation programs like SUMO are also advantageous in this aspect. The use of SUMO to simulate large, complex networks had been successfully done before. Much of the success is attributable to collective community effort, for the sheer amount of data inputs contributed that make a realistic urban traffic simulation possible. The prospects of generating traffic simulations by using SUMO and OpenStreetMap are discussed in this report.
