Description
Summary:Encryption and Decryption of information is vital in many communication methods and systems as it provides security during communication between two parties in the presence of third parties known as adversaries. The most basic of encryption technique is the monoalphabetic substitution cipher. However, such a cipher can be broken using statistical analysis of the ciphertext. Many attempts to use statistical analysis to break a monoalphabetic substitution cipher have been largely successful. This project aims to build a web-based demonstrator to visualise the steps taken during statistical analysis. The demonstrator also will show the intermediate results of making partial guess in the process of statistical analysis. This demonstrator will eventually serve as an accompanying learning material for students learning cryptography, particularly in the area of cryptanalysis. This report will cover the concepts of monoalphabetic substitution ciphers and statistical analysis as well as the finalized algorithm used to perform statistical analysis. The results of the demonstrator and its implications are then discussed for further extension of this project.
