Description
Summary:This paper aims to highlight the issues behind the staggering numbers of unnatural wild animal deaths in Singapore. It discusses the causes and consequences of urbanization, habitat loss and space invasion. It also analyses the past, present and possible future of Singapore’s rich biodiversity with emphasis on what Singapore may face to lose if no action is taken by the people. Death by Man is a photographic approach that was crafted out of the research mentioned in this paper. It is purposefully directed in a way to help elevate man’s consciousness of animals as sentient beings through text and images that are intended to leave viewers alarmed and willing to act. It attempts to play on the human tendency to anthropomorphise animals while using that as an advantage to develop emotionally relatable characters for each individual that has been photographed.
