Time as a construct is constant but time as perception is relative. The invention of clocks for time keeping was created around the 14th century and while that continued to develop, a uniform measurement system of time was not created up until the late 19th century. Before that, people relied on the sun and their body rhythms for time. But ever since the invention of the clock, this uniform and systematic construct of time has disrupted the natural rhythms of the body and its relationship to the natural world. In the 21st century, fast paced living has caused time to become increasingly insufficient and is considered a luxury. This connection between the constancy and relativity of time is something the researcher is interested to investigate. Could there possibly be new ways to restore the connection of time and the natural world into our psyche today in order that we may not be chased for time but master it within our fast paced world? Could there be alternatives to reading, using and living with time that we may find it sufficient again? This project hopes to redefine time and provide alternative forms of time relative to our lives.
