Description
Summary:The Next Train consists of a short film and a film installation based on a non-linear narrative of a Girl who struggles to reconcile with memories of her parents' divorce a decade ago. She does this a train station where she used to spend time with each of her parents - prior to and after the divorce. The changes in the familial relationships are shown with constrained dialogue and movements, each symbolic of their own conflicts with their duties as parent and child, and what they truly want. While the film can exist as a standalone, its film installation provides an alternative mode of storytelling in a physical dimension, showing the loneliness of the parents, and the inner grapplings of a child as she is forced to choose between her parents. This project was based on the director's own sense of loss after her parents' divorce. While it is a work of fiction, emotional motifs and characters used throughout the narrative arc largely borrows from her own memories from childhood. In a way, the project also entails a form of therapy for her to revisit the chrysalis of her past and have a renewed beginning emerge from the entire experience.
