The advent of innovative big data technologies benefits the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries greatly. Data science, a new multi-discipline field, has emerged to deal with the problems caused by tremendous amount of data. Thus, data science education for science students is important. However, there is no data science programme with biology domain exist in Singapore. In this study, a biological data science programme that incorporates contents from both data science and biology domains was suggested. The current data science programmes offered in Singapore institutions were examined to identify the core components of data science and hence the interrelated biology contents. The level of interest of students in data science components identified was also examined. A total of 22 core components of data science and 10 biology contents were suggested for the biological data science programme. In general, students showed moderate interest in data science components. The finding in this result is only used as the first gauge to examine how well students understand the data science.
