Summary: | “C” scan procedure has been not popular over the years because of the lack of standard and the variation of results. Even if one chooses to use the machine, there is little research papers that looks into the actual error and the methods to analysis the error. In addition to the complexity of the data collected, teaching of ultrasonic concepts using the “C” scan machine is also not of a popular choice. Hence this project will look into some of the advantage and disadvantages of the “C” scan machine and its capabilities. In this report, the reliability and repeatability of the data presented by “C” scan is being looked as well in term of the shape, location, length, width and the depth of the defects. Simple and complex defects are used and the results indicates that shape, location and depth is accurate with acceptable margin of error. While the width of the defect would require the help of “A” scan data in determining the width and requires the operator to have certain amount of knowledge in terms of ultrasonic testing. |
