Description
Summary:Studies have shown that prolonged period of sitting down in addition to inactive lifestyle is detrimental to the health. Getting up to move around after every 30 minutes can reduce the risks of prolonged sitting on human health. However, due to being engrossed in what they are doing, people can often forget that they need to get up after long period of time. This project explores the design and development of an intelligent knee brace that can detect sitting and standing positions, and remind the user to get up and move around after sitting down for 30 minutes. The project looks into low-cost sensors instead of the high-tech motion capturing systems, so as to keep the knee brace affordable for the masses. The report will present the background information, literature review, hardware design, data acquisition, algorithm and testing, results and discussion, followed by conclusion with future developments.
