I will first provide a brief introduction about the project and then elaborate on the various experimental techniques and procedures that were carried out over the past year. This report will describe the 5 different setup that were made by a team of engineers which includes Dr Sun and me. The test will be carried out in water filled with sand and the impinging angle will be varied. Some tests were also performed in 3.5% salt water. The introduction will elaborate on the purpose and scope of project, the literature review will cover on some basic information useful for the project. The experimental methodology will cover the 5 different setups. The results and analysis section will elaborate on the comparison between the 5 setups. Lastly will be the conclusion. It was found that setup 5 was the best setup to test the erosion rate of duplex stainless steel samples. Note that the focus of this project was to achieve a stable setup, rather than the results of the erosion rate of the samples. In addition, this report will only include the results obtained up to 2 April 2018. As the project lasts until October 2018, further tests will be carried out by Dr Sun and his team after my graduation.
