The motivation behind this research is to investigate the types of power converter topologies that are most well optimized for the marine applications. The report will be split into 5 different sections namely, introduction & background, literature review, understanding the operation, analyzing the criteria, comparison and evaluation between the various topologies, scoring system, and conclusion. The introduction will start off by providing the background information on the needs for ESS and the motivation behind it. It will also discuss the scope of work and task deliverable for the project. This section will also briefly touch upon the power generation on ships. Literature review section will discuss the fundamentals of different types of power converters that are available in the market which can be used for the integration of ESS for marine applications as well as the power system interface consideration for the project. The operation principle section will be explaining the operation principle of the converters, inverters and the transformer. With the understanding how these devices operate, this will aid in making comparisons and give a better understanding of what will be the better topology. The different criteria were analyzed and followed by the comparison and finally providing the ranking of the most suitable topologies among the proposed ones.
