Many innovative ideas and experiments for the measuring of structural health monitoring are also being conducted currently. Among these innovations, fiber optic sensor has proved to have many potentials waiting to be discovered. This report will discuss about the use of plastic/ polymer optic fiber (POF) sensor and the application in monitoring failure at metallic joints. Experiment will be carried out with dynamic loading being imposed on the metallic joint specimen with plastic fiber optic attached. The results will be analyzed and compared to the conventional structural health monitoring system accordingly. Eventually, the feasibility will then be assessed to evaluate how the plastic fiber optic can be applied in the real civil environment.
