Description
Summary:In a case where there is a need for repeated insertion of needles to specific locations of the human body, it would be ideal to have a device to help the wound recover. Researches shown that Poly l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone (PLC) can potentially be incorporated into designs for such applications as it had received much attention for its self-healing capabilities. Hence PLC is quantified as preliminary study. In this study, a puncture test method will be designed based on ASTM standards to simulate insertion of needle. First, Melt-drawn PLC mesh, PLC film, Silicone film and paper were tested to evaluate on the self-healing characteristic of different materials. Next, the effect of fabrication process towards the self-healing characteristics is evaluated between PLC film and melt spun PLC mesh. Results produced by the puncture test method was able to identify silicone film as the best material that showed great potential to be incorporated into devices for wound healing. It was also able to show that PLC film was able to close puncture wound holes better that PLC films.
