Description
Summary:This report presents a large scale public transportation traffic simulation system model in the Jurong East and Jurong West area. The simulation software used for this project, PTV VISSIM, is the world’s leading software for microscopic (single vehicle modelling) traffic simulation. It is also able to provide behavioral based simulation and single step simulation for easier troubleshooting. VISSIM also provides a large number of interfaces that is able for a seamless integration with other systems for signal controllers and/or traffic management. Every signal controller is able to control signal lights within the same road junction. In order to best simulate real world traffic behavior, VISSIM uses dynamic assignment to provide traffic flow randomly to the whole simulation instead of the same number of vehicle behavior flow for every simulation. To control the traffic lights using signal controller in the simulation, an external programming software will work alongside VISSIM to better control the traffic lights during simulation to reduce traffic flow for public transport via VISSIM-COM interface. After implementation of the traffic light strategy, the outcome shows improvement in the timings for public transport, better meeting the bus scheduling system.
