Summary: | Voltage regulator had been widely used in all different industry. With the benefits of voltage regulator being able to provide a consistent desired output, most of the modern advancement technology products required voltage regulator to regulate the unregulated input power and maintain the consistent output voltage as well.
This report represents the knowledge and learning experience gained through the final year project journey. It describes the learning journey throughout the project, which includes the design and implementation of several types of voltage regulator for power supply. There are two types most commonly used voltage regulator in the industry which is the linear regulator and switching regulator. This project is mainly researched around these two types of voltage regulator, simulated using different software, designed the prototype and compares the results.
Skills and experiences in software simulations, hardware modification and printed circuit board (PCB) were gained through implementations of design process. Linear regulators being researched and implemented are series voltage regulator, shunt voltage regulator, transistor shunt voltage regulator, fixed regulator and variable regulator. Switching regulators that involved in the process are buck converter, boost converter and buck-boost converter (inverting converter).
All the circuits are being simulated on MultiSIM and LTSpice. All the simulated measurements and the hardware measurements had been recorded in this report and the prototype have been designed to display the results in contrast to simulation results. All the circuits involved in this project had been designed for their layout on PCB design program, Altium Designer and fabricated as final products to deliver for this project.
This one year project learning journey has equipped with the technical skills in circuit design, software simulations, soldering, troubleshooting and apply the knowledge learnt to the solve real world problems. |
