Studying the operation of static frequency converter (SFC) and its impact on the power quality issues in power systems

It is specifically designed to interconnect normally incompatible power networks. One application is the shipyard industry whereby the ships docking in the shipyard would want to connect to the utility grid to power up some of its operations. However, the ship onboard power system ratings may differ from the utility grid so the SFC is required to connect the ship power system to the utility grid. Furthermore, SFC will also introduce power quality issues to the power system since it is a converter. This project aims to study the operation of SFC in Clean Energy Research Laboratory (CERL) microgrid testbed and its effect on power quality issues in power system. In the study of the operation of SFC, all the documents on procedures, meters such as energy analyzer and its program are documented. However, due to limited time, the study of power quality is not completed. Only power flow and some harmonic analysis is carried out using the signal processing techniques like wavelet transform (WT) and dual tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT).
