Currently, little has been done to reduce energy consumption from the consumer side and conventional energy monitoring systems on the market are rarely used due to its high cost and complexity. This project aims to develop a real-time home energy monitoring system which is user-friendly and cost effective. Users will be aware of how energy is consumed through the actual effect of their actions and this will improve energy consumption behavior of the consumers. In this project, the Arduino Microcontroller and its platform was selected for data acquisition and computation, and Xbee modules were used for wireless transmission of data. Python programming was used to extract and insert data into MySQL Database. PHP/HTML was used to program the live webpage which will display a real-time energy consumption chart and various information such as the current month electricity bill and power consumption. An Android application displaying real-time power usage was developed using Android Studio IDE and Java programming. The power/energy consumption information that is displayed will allow users to be aware of how their household is consuming energy.
