Summary: | Modern non-destructive testing (NDT) technology today plays a crucial role in the inspection of the structural integrity of industrial materials such as that of an aircraft wing or welding that holds a structure together. Ultrasonic testing is one of the NDT techniques that has proved to be an efficient and reliable testing method and is being used by many operators around the world. These operators would make use of ultrasonic testing to locate and size the cracks in a material and determine if the material is to be rejected according to available standards. The decision to reject or accept the material will ensure the safety of the public and survey the usefulness of the material. The types of defect detected could vary, from the regular shaped ones to the irregular shaped ones. This project will study the reliability of the A-scan in detecting irregular defects, which might be a common occurrence in materials. |
