Different types of dressings have different actions to the wound exudates. For that reason, a study about the diffusion of several components in wound exudate through the wound dressing is important. Additionally, such study might also be useful in developing a rapid diagnosis tool. Data can be used to evaluate the potential of wound exudate as a marker in diagnostic tool imbedded within dressing. To perform the study, a substance that has similar property with wound exudate was used. Two experiments were performed in a diffusion cell to evaluate the diffusion properties in different dressing materials and different position of the dressing. Due to different property of the dressings, there are some notable differences in the diffusion characteristic for each dressing. Generally, the higher absorbency dressing has more decrease in concentration in compare with lower absorbency dressing. Additionally, there is a significant difference between a horizontally and vertically placed dressing. The decrease in concentration for horizontally placed dressing is higher because the diffusion is induced by the gravitational force. Another result shows that relatively stable concentration of solution in the dressing was obtained over time.
