Summary: | With Smartphones becoming an essential digital device in this 21st Century, people have become very dependent on them. One of the most affected group of people are the students. They have become heavily dependent on the digital devices and especially Smartphones. College students are getting more distracted than ever due to these devices to the extent that they use them even during class instead of paying attention to the class.
Traditional education has become less relevant for this modern world and there has been a great upward expansion in smart learning. Furthermore, students also prefer smart learning such as Elearning which are very interactive and has gamification features.
Online Tutor for Engineering Students Software (OnTEn) application originally is a web-service platform that provides smart learning experience for students in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Nanyang Technological University. OnTEn contains student-friendly and easy-to-navigate review modules and practise questions for students. Students are encouraged to login into OnTEn website to divert their attention from using other mobile distracting application such as Social Media.
This project proposes to enhance OnTEn website with gamification features to motivate students to learn the courses in a more fun and enjoyable manner. A Badge System would be created using Drupal Modules, Goals and Rules Integration and PHP programming language. This system would award students when they have earned the minimum points to meet the criteria to achieve a badge. Furthermore, improvements would be made to make the learning process more interactive using H5P plug-in. |
