Summary: | The concept of mobile applications appeared at the end of the twentieth century. Mobile applications then, were designed and developed by mobile phone manufacturers. Mobile phones came pre-installed with mobile applications that only provided the basic functions of a contact list or calendar that a phone required and an occasional mobile game or two. The early years of the new millennium saw the evolution of the smart phone ecosystem where new operating systems came into play and mobile applications were no longer the sole domain of mobile phone manufacturers. In late 2007, google released the software development kit (SDK) followed by Apple in 2008. The release of SDKs on the two most popular operating systems (OS) allowed for third party mobile application development. Over the years, technology has contributed to a highly rapid improvement of smart phones such that even high memory consumption mobile applications that were once considered impossible to operate on a mobile phone are now possible. Mobile application developers started developing applications that solved real life problems and provided much needed functionalities. In this project, the main focus will be the development of a highly adaptable and scalable mobile application operable on both iOS and Android. The aim of this mobile application seeks to reduce waste. Waste in this case, means that a valuable resource which can still be utilised. In this project, the focus will be placed on food wastage. The mobile application in this project will focus on the key strategies of redistributing excess edible food. |
