Description
Summary:This project has carried out literature review of additive manufacturing (AM) of composites, and studied the mechanical properties of 3D printed composites by making comparisons with the manufacturer’s data and the theoretical properties. Both Literature review and tensile properties comparison has showed that the voids in the fused deposition modelling (FDM) printed composites have weaken its the mechanical properties. A study on the hygrothermal effect on the 3D printed tensile specimen was also done in this project, and results have shown that the tensile properties was affected negatively by the heated water soaking. Future research should be continued by further reviewing and developing on post-processing techniques for FDM printed composites. The successful removal of voids in the composites will be advantageous in AM, in particularly the FDM development.
