Ultra low power tags for real-time location tracking of people and objects
In the modern world, positioning technology has become an important part of our lives. We are heavily reliant on this technology especially in areas such as navigation and mapping. An example would be the Global Positioning System (GPS) which we use in our mobile devices. However, GPS requires an un...

We are heavily reliant on this technology especially in areas such as navigation and mapping. An example would be the Global Positioning System (GPS) which we use in our mobile devices. However, GPS requires an unobstructed line of sight and in environments where there are many physical constructs such as indoors, attenuation will occur and hence this makes GPS unreliable in such cases. This report illustrates the design of an Ultra-Low Power RFID Tag for use in an indoor environment. The primary component of the tag is the CC1310, a powerful ARM based microcontroller by Texas Instruments. The project involves first, understanding and testing out the CC1310 launchpad by Texas Instruments before proceeding to the PCB design. The PCB design is carried out using Altium Designer and the primary goals of the design is minimizing power consumption and creating a compact design. This includes examining the CC1310 launchpad and finding alternative components to replace the current ones to further minimize the space taken up on the PCB.
