Summary:This report studies the permeability evolution of fractured rocks under different conditions, to simulate in situ stress states. The report investigates fractured rocks from two different forms, namely granite and metamorphic rocks. The report will be based on a steady state flow test that used to evaluate certain core and essential values that required to calculate the intrinsic permeability of each rock specimen. This is to simulate the process of excavation whereby the risk of water inrush through the permeability of the rock specimen is calculated. Hence, the MTS machine is fully utilized to set up the experimental conditions and obtain the results. The results that are attained from the experiments can be used to find out the intrinsic permeability of the rock specimen under varying axial and confining pressure to replicate the change of stress conditions during excavation work.
