Description
Summary:Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important technology in protecting the safety of everyone. It is necessary to ensure that all materials are certified within a certain safety limit to prevent catastrophic failure of any component. Ultrasonic testing is one of many NDT techniques available. It is commonly used on the wings of an aircraft or on the weldment of large pipes making sure that no defects deemed serious enough is detected. Operators worldwide must receive proper education of ultrasonic testing before being able to produce accurate and reliable conclusions. These operators will examine the material and attempt to size the dimensions and shape of defect if it is detected. The A-scan is the most basic procedure of ultrasonic testing. It is essential to research more on ultrasonic testing, its effectiveness and limitations, to make sure material failure is kept to a minimum.
