Description
Summary:In Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), ultrasonic testing is a commonly used technique in characterizing materials as it reduces the risk of radiation effects compared to Radiography Testing for example and it also has better attenuation features [1]. However, due to the rapidly vanishing of the evanescent waves which carry information on the details of an object, it is of interest to find a way to overcome this limitation. To retain the evanescent waves, a medium has to have a negative refractive index [2]. Recently, various studies show that using the concept of metamaterial lens, overcoming the diffraction limit is possible [3-10]. Hence, in this project, we explore the possibilities of using Metamaterial Lens to obtain 2D images and to experiment on the effect of the characteristics on the image resolution. It is also of interest to experiment on the effectiveness of using Metamaterial lens in Ultrasonic Testing.
