Description
Summary:This paper presents the relationship between the crack width formed in MgO cement and the type of hydrated magnesia cement(HMC) formed. These crack widths were created using sandpaper and G-clamps. There were four range of crack widths used to evaluate this relationship, namely: less than 50um, 50-100um,100-150um and more than 200um. Upon having the precipitated HMCs, chemical analysis of the HMCs is done using SEM, EDX and TGA analysis to determine the morphology as well as the chemical composition of these HMCs microstructures. In addition, the carbonation depth within each crack width sample is also evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the carbonation process within each crack width.
