Although it is not life-threatening, it can severely affect patients’ quality of life (QoL). There are no current local studies on the public’s awareness of melasma and their willingness to seek treatment. Recently, a novel treatment known as TCM nanoneedle combination therapy has been employed in melasma treatment. This study aimed to investigate the understanding of melasma amongst Singaporean women and the effectiveness of current TCM treatment options. A self-administered questionnaire was conducted among 285 Singaporean women aged 35 and above. In addition, a clinical observation of 10 patients receiving TCM nanoneedle combination therapy was carried out, and patients were assessed at enrollment (T0) and the third (T3) week of the study period. Generally, Singaporean women were fairly knowledgeable on melasma, and a majority expressed interest in seeking treatment for melasma. From the clinical observation, there was an overall decrease in modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI) scores. The results provided insight on awareness of melasma among Singaporean women, and their willingness to seek treatment. The clinical observation gave us an understanding of the effectiveness of TCM nanoneedle combination therapy and its potential clinical uses.
