Description
Summary:In recent years, there have been many incidents that are prone to disasters in a crowd such as the Love Parade disaster. These disasters caused heavy damages, which could be reduced, to the environment and people because of poor evacuation environment and processes. With a better environment built or mapped out for emergencies, evacuation processes could be smoothened, and future damages could be prevented or reduced. This report attempts to ascertain the importance in following regulations and guidelines to architectural layouts of rooms in educational buildings through simulating different environment layouts and evaluating their effectiveness. However, there are many existing simulation models, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Hence, a replication of a real-world experiment is simulated with different models to determine the most realistic one. The selected model is then used to evaluate various layouts for their effectiveness during an emergency evacuation. The replication of a real-world experiment had determined a realistic model and the model was used to evaluate several layouts with different architectural guidelines. It is ascertained that the incorporation of good practices in constructing an architectural layout to facilitate better evacuation processes which could reduce damages during unforeseen circumstances. Future experiments could be done using different model algorithms and compare with the results obtained in this project.
