Caregivers and their guardians frequently experience high levels of stress and anxiety, and it can be overwhelming to take care of a loved one with dementia. With the increasing number of dementia patients, there is a greater demand for healthcare facilities and caregivers. To support the needs of a dementia patient and their caregiver, a group of university final year students have developed an online centralized platform system. There are three key objectives of this project. The first objective is to improve the backend system with necessary testing, modification and enhancement. The second objective is to improve the latency between Front-End PEAR Application as there is a high delay when connecting to the backend server live database. The third objective is to provide security measures to ensure that confidential data are well protected. The backend system comprises four segments, a web-based platform built using a ASP.NET MVC5 framework, Microsoft SQL Server Database, Google Firebase Console and APC hosting platform. The website offers user functions such as managing held records, performing procedural generation of schedule as well as having a snapshot archive tool to archive the patients’ records. Typically, Front-End PEAR Application would face retardation every time the system fetches data from Microsoft SQL Server Database. Application Programming Interface (APIs) and Snapshot Archive was consequently implemented to improve the speed performance. API eliminates the need of processing data in the Front-End PEAR Application and Snapshot Archive function would archive past year records to a read-only database. Time duration was recorded, and the overall results concluded that the API was significantly timesaving, as opposed to its forerunner. A few other aspects such as push notification, security implementation and design concepts that will help to improve the backend system will be covered in this report.
