description |
This design report aims to investigate in creating an automated platform for obtaining microstructure information from metal alloy using optical microscopy such as the proximity sensor. The past method used for monitoring structure of the information required consistently manually adjusting of the light source. With the use of the scanner, the material sample can be analysed in detail with minimum assistance. The platform is produced to integrate the platform together with the sensor to allow material information to be captured at various angle or distance from the scanner.
For this project, it will be divided into two sections, firstly would be mainly focusing on the mechanical design. Follow by the electronic process such as the microcontroller for making it automated.
Initial phase of the project is to define the design requirement. This can be done by looking through the size constraint as well as understanding the user needs. The next phase would be focusing on the conceptual design which include drafting the functional analysis and the methodological chart. Follow by doing the embodiment and detailed design. In general, a total of three design concepts will be proposed and evaluated. The chosen design was reformed through numerous design iteration. Finally, the design was modelled using computer-aid software to analyse their motion before sending the components for manufacturing.
The next section of the project is making the platform automated by adding electronic component to the design. The use of the microcontroller enables the system to move on its own with minimum assistance. A graphical user interface act as the control panel to allow information to be send over to the microcontroller.
The report also included the detail engineering drawings of all the component as well as the systematic diagram of all the electronic components that is use for this system. |
