The significance of precast element design has raised with the increasing adoption of precast and prefabrication construction methods. It has also drawn the interest of developers and researchers over the last several decades. This is because of the many benefits of precast construction over conventional cast in-situ reinforced concrete construction. Essentially the structural components of the superstructure are manufactured off-site while construction proceeds on-site concurrently. This results in increased productivity and workers’ safety. With the rising reliance on technology, using software has been the main means of conducting analysis and design computations. Unlike in the past, where computation was hand calculated. This meant designs had to be very conservative to ensure safety. In addition, this was not a very efficient means of conducting an analysis. With powerful software engineers are now able to conduct analysing of a large amount of data, do design computations, check structural considerations and detect conflicts in their design almost instantaneously. There is plenty of software available to assist Engineers in reinforced concrete design but there are not many available to tackle precast construction. Which leads to the study on the development of Eurocode-compliant innovative and purpose-built solution for precast element design. Trimble Solutions Corporation with Nanyang Technological University has developed “the Eurocode-compliant innovative and purpose-built solution for precast element design.” A new solution to assist the local construction industry to effectively in integrate, adopt and carry out precast designs in a more effective and efficient manner in accordance to Eurocode SG Annex. This would not be possible without the support and assistance from Singapore’s Building Construction Authority, LSW Consulting Engineers Pte Ltd, P & T Consultants Pte Ltd, Housing & Development Board and Building & Research Institute, HDB-BRI. NTU was tasked with establishing the solution platform on the MS Excel Environment while Trimble focuses on developing the solution on the MS Word environment known as TEDDS for Word.
