Description
Summary:Since the Second World War, direction finder was introduced and used in application in military operations to locate transmitters in areas such as land, air and sea. As the years passes, different types of direction finder are being designed to better improve in its direction finding’s accuracy. The Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation of signals is an important research area for receiver applications using arrays. As mentioned earlier, designs had been proposed to function as direction finder but still, those mprovements came with using many receivers (antennas) and becoming larger in size. In this report, the portable direction finder (DF) is an architecture proposed for direction finding which a design with electronically controlled antenna array consist of one active element and four passive elements. The design of five monopoles on a ground plane provides 360-degree azimuthal coverage with no moving parts, can provide excellent directional resolution. At the same time, this report aims to examine the concepts and methods of antenna array as a direction finder and lastly, the design, simulation results and future work are presented.
