Summary: | Many plants in rainforests have their seeds dispersed by animals droppings in order to multiply. The seeds often travel far from the parent plant, and there is no reliable way of determining the whereabouts after the fruit has been consumed. RFID technology is used in the hopes of providing a solution to which a method of tracking can be realized. In order to achieve reliable results, the antenna that reads the RFID chips needs to be on high gain, and also be compact enough to be carried around in a rainforest. Various methods were tested to improve on the current system to maximize its potential, but it was found to be too limited in its capacity with regards to its detection capability. This resulted in the procurement of a newer system that had much better capabilities, but it is also not without its own drawbacks. |
